8 design resources we love:
We’ve created a list of our favourite resources to share with you. We have inspiration sites, CAD assets and grahics assets. Enjoy.
1. The Die Line (INSPIRATION)
This site is great for packaging design inspiration. You can browse by product category which makes it really easy to see relevant packaging to your needs. We love that you can see design news and trends, plus see case studies for brands. As well as inspiration for ourselves, we’ve also used it with clients to see which styles they prefer.
2. From Up North (INSPIRATION)
Really nice curation of fantastic designs from lots of different creative industries. Articles range from product designs, to logos, to packaging and through to architecture.
3. Core 77 (INSPIRATION)
From industrial design tips to new materials, Core77 is a wealth of information and inspiration. There are lots of interesting articles about new designs and there are even 5 separate forums to chat with others about your questions and projects.
4. Grab CAD (INSPIRATION)
GrabCAD is a site for 3D models, it’s a community where users upload their own models as well as download others. We use it for parts to accompany our renders and animations.
5. McMaster (CAD ASSETS)
This is primarily a shop for standard components, but what’s great is that you can download accurate CAD for the parts too. We use lots of standard components in our CAD designs for fixings. This site allows us to save time and improve accuracy.
6. Mixamo (CAD ASSETS)
We discovered this site recently and it’s been great for our latest product animations for Closomat UK where we needed to show a person using their products. You can rig your 3D characters automatically onto a biped, and it really does work. It’s also great for downloading character movements and the characters themselves. We uploaded our own character skin and automatically rigged it to a biped. We then animated in in 3Ds Max ourselves as part of a product animation.
7. Beehance (GRAPHICS ASSETS)
As well as being good for curated galleries, Behance is a fab resource for free fonts. There are lots of fonts free for commercial use as well as personal.
8. Graphics Fuel (GRAPHICS ASSETS)
Often it’s a much better visual impact to the client when graphics are shown on the final product, that’s where graphics Fuel comes in. They have lots of Photoshop mockups ready for you to add your graphics onto. This is a brilliant time saver and allows the client to easily visualise what the finished article will looks like.
Let us know if you have any great resources too.
